The beautiful Osa Peninsula is the southernmost peninsula found in Costa Rica. The region is a secluded play land home to pristine rainforests and lush tropical jungles.

The area features rugged hillsides that tumble into beautiful beaches. National Geographic Magazine has declared the region "one of the most biologically intense places on Earth" and the Osa Peninsula has become one of the premiere eco-tourism destinations in the country.

History & Culture

One of the best-known areas in the region is Drake Bay which was first discovered by Sir Francis Drake during his circumnavigation of the globe. The region is incredibly biologically diverse and contains more distinct tropical ecosystems than any other place on Earth its size.

A large portion of the peninsula is comprised of the Corcovado National Park. The area is one of the tallest rainforests in the world, and is home to several rare and endangered animal and bird species including the puma, jaguar, and scarlet macaw.

Lodging & Dining

The beautiful lodges found in this region seamlessly blend jungle and rainforest life with the beauty of the beach. Whether you choose La Paloma, Pirate Cove, or Aguila de Osa, all located near the peaceful Drake Bay, Casa Corcovado close to Corcovado National Park, Lapa Rios on the tip of peninsula where the Golfo Dulce meets the Pacific, Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge near Piedras Blancas National Park, or the secluded Luna Lodge, you'll be thrilled by your accommodations and the amazing sights that surround you.

The Osa Peninsula is a nature lover's dream. Be sure to spend time exploring the Corcovado National Park where 45% of the species in Costa Rica can be found. The jungle lodges in the area also have nature trails perfect for short hikes, or experience the rugged trails and dense jungles of the region on horseback.

Water-based options include snorkeling and SCUBA diving around the marine preserve of Caño Island, sea kayaking, deep sea or inshore fishing, dolphin and whale watching or peaceful mangrove tours.
